Alone in the Playground

Alone in the Playground
I learned how not to be alone in the playground.
~Emil Ferris~

An interesting quote from Emil Ferris, an artist, writer, and cartoonist. SL is a big cartoon playground populated with us…the residents who come here for all kinds of reasons – to find friendship, companionship, love; to do things they might not get to do in real life – be a model, start up an art gallery, design houses and homes. Sometimes I think SL can allow us to be our best selves. Then I realize that no matter where we go, there we are, and we are who we are in SL or RL. And we all know it’s easier to just let it all hang out in whatever social online milieu we choose to be in. There’s no accountability so go ahead and knock someone down. Not that everyone does that, but I see it enough to imagine how much it happens. I like to be alone in the playground that is SL. I think that learning not to be alone in here is a major feat, and that like RL, all the golden rules we know must come in to play. I’ve seen this quote floating around attributed to various thinkers and spiritual people: If you propose to speak, always ask yourself, is it true, is it necessary, is it kind. No matter who said it first, this is the way to be.
